Distance Learning
Each unit includes pre-visit materials, a 45-minute interactive visit, and post-visit lesson plans and activities. All Distance Learning units are aligned with New York State curriculum standards and are available at Middle and high school level. Length of each session equals one class period (approx. 50-55 min).
Lewis Hine: Images of Child Labor for Middle School/ High School
Examine Lewis Hine's compelling images documenting child labor at the beginning of the twentieth century. Students will strengthen their visual observation skills while analyzing historic photographs. Teacher Packet includes pre-visit and post-visit materials, historical timeline, bibliography, and additional resources.
Unit One: Middle School level, 7th and 8th grade

Lewis Hine: Images of Ellis Island Middle School/ High School
Study famous photographs by Lewis Hine depicting twentieth century immigrants arriving at Ellis Island. Discern their meaning(s) both then and now through critical review process. Teacher Packet includes pre-visit and post-visit materials.

Professional Development for Teachers
Lewis Hine: Images of Ellis Island Middle School/ High School
Designed especially for educators to enhance critical viewing skills when using photographs as a primary source. Participants engage in strategies that can be brought back to the classroom— helping students become discerning consumers of historical documents and visual media. Units can be taken as 3-session course of 60 minutes each or as a back-to-back half-day course.

Unit Three: Photography and the Curriculum
Length: Three hours total.
Schedules and Costs
Scheduling Times
Distance Learning sessions can be scheduled Mondays-Fridays between 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Eastern Time). Sessions should be scheduled at least 4 weeks in advance.
Program Costs
Virtual Field Trips: $120 per session
Professional Development Sessions: $50 per person (20 person maximum) Payment is due in full on receipt of program confirmation (no later than 1 week prior to the videoconference). The school pays the connection fees for the videoconferencing call.
Refunds and Cancellations
No refunds will be given on scheduled programs. Rescheduling is welcome, subject to availability. Cancellations must be received at least 48 hours in advance to be eligible for rescheduling (unless due to unanticipated technical difficulties during the videoconference).
