How to Submit Work for Acquisition and Exhibition
Thank you for your interest in George Eastman House. These are guidelines for submission of your work for our consideration. We have recently streamlined this process in response to the large number of submissions and queries we receive.
George Eastman House reviews unsolicited submissions several times a year. Receipt of your submission will be acknowledged by email within 45 days.
Do not send anything that must be returned. If you send us any publications they will be offered to our library, which will notify you if they have been accepted.
All submissions must include an email address. Work submitted without one will be discarded without review. We collect and exhibit only photography and the related media of gravure, video and xerography. We will collect and exhibit computer-generated work, silkscreen, sculpture and collage only if they use photography at some point in the process.
Please do not send exhibition prints, framed work, or large maquettes without prior approval from the Photography Department curatorial staff. We prefer that you submit a CD-ROM of jpegs readable by Mac or PC. Please do not email us scans unless we ask you to do so. We do not usually review websites. If you are interested in doing a site-specific exhibition, please submit a proposal along with information and visual documentation referring to similar projects you have completed elsewhere.
The most successful submissions are coherent bodies of work accompanied by an artist’s statement. Unconventional techniques should be explained. Please submit a resume along with your images. Other things that may be helpful to us are clippings, reviews, catalogues and other publications.
Your work will be reviewed by Photography Department staff. You will receive a response from us only if we wish to discuss your work with you or otherwise move forward.
Please bear in mind that our exhibitions are planned several years in advance, our purchase funds are limited, and we receive a large number of submissions and proposals annually. Nevertheless we are always interested in seeing new work and look forward to becoming familiar with yours.
