On Sunday October 14, 2012 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm in Living Room
A unique blend of the middle voice of the orchestral string section, Altosphere is comprised of four violas. All of its members are currently pursuing doctoral degrees in performance and literature at the Eastman School of Music with Professor Carol Rodland. Although they are not a traditional string quartet, their bond as musicians and colleagues is just as strong in that they shared the same pedagogical lineage with noted pedagogues Jeffrey Irvine and Lynne Ramsey at the Cleveland Institute of Music. They discovered their shared love for the exciting possibilities of viola ensemble music at the 2012 International Viola Congress hosted by the Eastman School of Music. They have created a commissioning project collaborating with students in the Eastman composition department to expand the repertoire of viola literature. A unique blend of diverse personalities and musical interests, Altosphere is comprised of a contemporary music specialist, a Fulbright scholar, a Baroque viola expert with a background in physics, and a pedagogy enthusiast.
Join us on select Sundays when music fills George Eastman’s home.
