The Museum will honor Richard Gere on Thursday, Feb. 16, as the 67th recipient of the George Eastman Award for distinguished contribution to the art of film. In accepting the honor, Gere joins the august and spirited company of such film legends as Charles Chaplin, Cecil B. DeMille, Gary Cooper, Martin Scorsese, Joan Crawford, Isabella Rossellini, Meryl Streep, Kim Novak, and Frank Capra.
“Eastman House has a special interest in inviting Mr. Gere to receive this honor, “ says Anthony Bannon, the Museum’s Ron and Donna Fielding Director, “as he embodies the spirit of all three of the major awards this institution bestows, including the George Eastman Award; the George Eastman Honors, presented to those who excel in both motion picture and photography; and the Eastman Medal of Honor, awarded for exemplary public service.”
The evening will begin with an award ceremony in the Dryden Theatre at 7:30 p.m. The gala reception, featuring the music of Gap Mangione in the Conservatory and the Midtown Jazz Band in the Potter Peristyle, begins at 8:30 p.m.
