Submit Pet Photos!
Why Look at Animals?, on view September 23, 2006 through January 7, 2007, incorporates both a survey of the Museum’s extensive holdings from the 19th through 21st centuries and a selection of contemporary works that explore how and why animals are featured in photographs. An additional section encourages community participation through the submission of photographs of beloved pets - and their owners - to hang alongside the exhibition’s professional photographs of animals.
Photographs sought from the community can fall into any of the following five categories:
- People who look like their pets
- Amusing pictures of pets
- Animals in costume
- People dressed like animals
- Dear departed pets for a memorial section
Photographs can be submitted electronically online or in hard copy format. Images submitted by December 1, 2006 will be considered; the plan is for all appropriate images to be displayed. Please note hard copy images cannot be returned. You may also submit in person at the Eastman House admissions desk Tuesday through Sunday.
All participants must provide the following:
- An unframed hard copy no larger than 11"x14” in size or electronic image (via email to animals@geh.org in jpeg format, 300 dpi, no larger than 5x7 inches)
- Name, address, phone number, and email address
- A brief description about the photograph being submitted
- The category under which your photograph should be featured (please choose only one)
