Seeing Ourselves: American Faces
George Eastman House presents the photographic faces of more than 40 Americans, including Babe Ruth, Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn Monroe, Theodore Roosevelt, and Georgia O’Keeffe. This installation is part of a larger exhibition that will tour the four corners of the United States in early 2007, titled Seeing Ourselves: Masterpieces of American Photography from the George Eastman House Collection. This advance sneak peek at the American Faces section displays photographs of people that have been used to create celebrity, establish identity, and influence our perceptions. Photographers who have captured these American faces include Mathew Brady, Richard Avedon, Alfred Stieglitz, Dorothea Lange, Edward Steichen, Mary Ellen Mark, and Gordon Parks. The complete Seeing Ourselves exhibition of more than 300 images has been made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Entrance Gallery. Included with museum admission.
