February 16—March 2, 2008

This monument is founded on the idea that we, as citizens, are equally responsible for the welfare of an entire community, not just the issues that directly affect us as individuals. Whereas, in real memorials, stuffed animals, flowers, candles, and frames are left on streets by the closest friends and family members of murder victims, this monument asks the question, “What would it look like if the entire community left items in support of the families and friends of victims of violence?”

All of the items have been donated by members of this community. Visitors may continue to add to this pile throughout the duration of the installation.
