In November 2003, the Eastman Kodak Company donated their entire collection of advertising materials to the George Eastman Archive at George Eastman House. The collection spans over one hundred years of Kodak advertisements ranging from 1884 – 1988. A quick estimate indicated there are approximately 95,000 advertisements in the collection. The majority of the advertisements are in English, but this collection also includes many foreign ads such as Spanish (Peru, Argentina, Chile etc.), French, Japanese, and Chinese.
For years people have come from all over the world to access the Museum’s extensive collection of photography and motion pictures. Now they can explore the myriad of ways photography has been used in advertising over the years–how it has created desire and influenced our tastes and styles.
