Photo Fun Workshops for Kids this summer at George Eastman House
Six different weeklong workshops will focus on special-effect
pictures, movie-making and animation, photo crafts, and basic photography
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A visual experience awaits curious campers
this summer as George Eastman House presents the debut of Photo Fun Workshops
for Kids. Six different weeklong workshops in July and August — for
children ages 8 to 12 — will focus on special-effect pictures,
movie-making and animation, photo crafts, and basic photography techniques.
The camps are dedicated to teaching children how to maneuver a camera and
turn their pictures into artwork. The individual weeklong camps run from 9 a.m.
until 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Experienced Eastman House educators will
guide the hands-on creativity and exploration. Some camp programs feature short
neighborhood walking tours and on-location trips, such as to the Seneca Park
Zoo. All cameras will be provided for campers.
FREAKY PHOTOS July 9 to July 13 Campers will learn
the secrets of taking trick "special-effect" pictures, trying a series of
different techniques — from pinhole to multi-flash and digital photoplay.
PHOTO FASHION July 16 to July 20 Campers make their
own wearable photographic creations! During the week they will use pictures in
designing sunprint t-shirts, bandanas and buffs, necklaces, backpack
accessories, and more.
TAKE IT! MAKE IT! July 23 to July 27 Combines a
session of taking pictures with making photo-craft projects, including panoramic
collages, handmade paper photo albums, and mixed-media frames.
PICTURES IN ACTION! July 30 to Aug. 3 Examine the
science behind how we see pictures move, and then to jump right in to produce
your own mini-movies. Campers will use a variety of animation devices, combining
photography with illustration.
ON LOCATION Aug. 6 to Aug. 10 Go on a daily
adventure with your camera. Campers will explore the Eastman House and grounds
on a photo scavenger hunt; explore the East Avenue neighborhood on a "find it"
tour; and take theme trips off-site for local photo shoots, including visiting
the Seneca Park Zoo.
FROM BASICS TO DIGITAL Aug. 13 to Aug. 17 This
session will take campers through all stages of picture making — from
chemical to computers. Campers will discover darkroom techniques, experimental
and alternative processes, and digital manipulation.
The cost of each weekly workshop is $110 ($100 for George Eastman House
members), which includes a $10 supply fee. To receive more information about
