Eastman House presents Ansel Adams Environmental Awareness Day
and a lecture with Adams's son Aug. 12
Event welcomes environmental group and features family
activities
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — George Eastman House presents Ansel Adams
Environmental Awareness Day from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, followed by a 4
p.m. lecture with Adams's son, Michael. These events are offered in conjunction
with the current exhibition Ansel Adams: Celebration of Genius, on view through
Sept. 3, 2007.
1 to 4 p.m. ANSEL ADAMS ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS DAY
Enjoy an afternoon of activities focused on the conservationist spirit of Ansel
Adams, including an Environmental Awareness Fair featuring environmental groups
on hand to provide information. Additional activities include live music,
professional sidewalk art depicting scenes from Adams's photographs, and
children's crafts and face painting. Offered in conjunction with the current
exhibition Ansel Adams: Celebration of Genius. All Ansel Adams Day events are
included with regular museum admission (with an additional fee for the Ansel
Adams exhibition and 4 p.m. lecture with AdamsÕs son, Michael Adams). Museum
admission is $8 for adults; $6 for seniors (age 60+), $5 students; and free for
members and children and under. Admission to the Ansel Adams exhibition (which
includes entry to the house, gardens, and all galleries) is $12 for adults: $10
for seniors (age 60+); $8 students; $3 children ages 5 to 12; and free for
members and children 4 and under.
4 p.m. LECTURE WITH MICHAEL ADAMS Ansel Adams's son,
Michael Adams, will present the lecture "Ansel Adams: A Son's Perspective."
Michael Adams traveled extensively with his father and was present when he
photographed many of his most famous images, including Moonrise, Hernandez, N.M.
and Mt. McKinley, Wonder Lake, Alaska. Michael Adams will share his family's
early history and discuss his father's first trip to Yosemite National Park and
photographic beginnings. Michael Adams, who was born in Yosemite, is a retired
medical doctor and Korean War veteran. In the 1970s he and his wife purchased
his family's century-old Yosemite photo shop, Best's Studio Inc., which today is
run by their children as The Ansel Adams Gallery in California. Admission to the
lecture is $15 general admission and $10 members/students. Visit
