Dryden Theatre presents six screenings of critically acclaimed
documentary Lake of Fire, which explores the abortion issue in America
Special three-day run will qualify film for a Best Documentary Oscar® nomination
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Dryden Theatre at George Eastman House will present six
screenings of the critically acclaimed documentary Lake of Fire, which graphically explores the
abortion issue in America. The special three-day run of this Rochester premiere, Nov. 10 through
12, will qualify Lake of Fire for a Best Documentary Academy Award® nomination.
Tony Kaye, director of the controversial American History X, spent 15 years researching
and filming this documentary. In Lake of Fire (US 2006, 152 min., Digital Projection) Kaye
devotes equal time to both sides, interviewing extremists and average citizens, as well as
interspersing thoughtful commentary from political activist Noam Chomsky. An intelligent
and compelling investigation into a very complex topic, it also is very graphic in showing
the physical and psychological realities of abortion and is not recommended for the faint-hearted.
Here's what the national press has had to say:
"A provocatively beautiful movie on the hottest hot-button issues in American life: a woman's right to an abortion." (Village Voice)
"Lives up to its definitiveness...a significant piece of journalism." (Film Journal International)
"Smart, visually appealing and consistently engaging." (Hollywood Reporter)
