Actor and filmmaker John Turturro
visits Dryden Theatre Jan. 11
Star of Do the Right Thing and O Brother, Where Art Thou?
to present his feature film Romance & Cigarettes
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Dryden Theatre at George Eastman House
welcomes actor and filmmaker John Turturro at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11 He will
introduce the Rochester premiere of his star-packed film Romance & Cigarettes,
which he wrote and directed, and will answer audience questions following the screening.
Turturro is best-known for his performances in such films as O Brother, Where Art Thou?,
The Big Lebowski, Barton Fink, Quiz Show, and Do the Right Thing plus seven additional
Spike Lee films.
Film critic Roger Ebert gave four stars to Romance & Cigarettes
(US 2005, 115 min., 35mm), Turturro's third feature film as writer-director.
Ebert described it as
"A film that breaks out of Hollywood jail with audacious
originality, startling sexuality, heartfelt emotions, and an anarchic liberty."
Romance & Cigarettes examines the love triangle between embattled married
couple Nick and Kitty (James Gandolfini and Susan Sarandon), and Nick's mistress
Tula (Kate Winslet). A profane and tragicomic working-class love story with musical
numbers, the supporting cast includes Christopher Walken, Steve Buscemi, and Eddie Izzard.
