Dryden Theatre welcomes producer Jon Davison April 26
Producer of Airplane! and RoboCop to talk with audience following
screening of Searchers 2.0; director Alex Webb to join via speaker-phone
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Dryden Theatre at George Eastman House welcomes
producer Jon Davison (Airplane!, White Dog, RoboCop, Starship Troopers) at 8 p.m. Saturday,
April 26. Davison will introduce his 2007 film Searchers 2.0 and answer audience questions
in a post-screening discussion. Joining in that discussion, via speaker-phone, will be
writer/director Alex Cox (Repo Man, Sid and Nancy), with whom Davison collaborated on
Searchers 2.0.
In a comedy for movie lovers, Searchers 2.0 features two actors who have spent their
careers in American westerns. They decide to take a road trip to legendary Monument
Valley, Utah, the legendary location of John Ford's westerns. Their purpose is to
confront an 86-year-old screenwriter who mistreated them when they were child
extras on the set of "Buffalo Bill vs. Doc Holiday."
"It has something to do with the John Ford movie The Searchers in terms of a parody or
a film reference," explained Alex Cox, when questioned by a reporter about the title.
"But it's also shot on digital video, so we thought the 2.0 would give it a modern aspect."
While Davison and Cox are best known for their work behind the camera, both have
popped up in small parts in their movies. Possibly the most memorable for Davison is
the tinny voice of the murderous malfunctioning robot ED-209 in RoboCop.
Admission to the April 26 event is $6 general public; $5 students; and $4 members. For more information please visit dryden.eastmanhouse.org or call (585) 271-4090.
