Don't miss the chance to experience this critically acclaimed
and Oscar-nominated film on the big screen
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Dryden Theatre at George Eastman House will screen
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30
and Thursday, May 1. The film, in which Brad Pitt stars as the troubled James and Casey
Affleck provides an Oscar-nominated performance as Robert Ford, was shown for a limited
time in Rochester and was overlooked by movie audiences. Critics, on the other hand, raved
about the film's in-depth character analysis and stunning visuals. "My film of the year —
beautiful and fascinating and utterly original," said Jack Garner of the Democrat and Chronicle.
In the 1880s, Jesse James was the most notorious criminal in the nation. Robert Ford was a
young admirer of James', unknown to the American public, but not for long. The Assassination
of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (Andrew Dominik, US 2007, 160 min.) follows the
James-Younger gang, which was depleted by arrests and deaths in the last year of James' life.
The relationship between the few remaining men had begun to deteriorate, as did the mental
health of James after years of violence and life in seclusion. Ford entered the equation as
a young man whose lifelong dream of riding with Jesse's gang lead him toward an act of
betrayal that would seal his own tragic destiny.
In addition to Affleck's Oscar nod, the film's technical merits have also been recognized,
with Roger Deakins receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography.
Admission is $6 general admission, $5 students, and $4 members. For more information please visit dryden.eastmanhouse.org or call (585) 271-4090.
