Following is a memoir of a visit shared by Margaret Geller and Berenice Abbott fifteen years ago. Dr. Geller is a senior scientist at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and a winner of the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship. She studies galaxies at the edge of time and makes prize-winning films about them. Berenice Abbott was a legendary twentieth-century documentary photographer. The memoir tells the story of two peoples’ lifelong fascination with the beauty of science.
